1. Q: What are the acceptance requirements?
A: We look for passionate and driven students that will uphold our reputation and standards, therefore an interview process is conducted. Potential students interested in our programs must schedule an appointment to receive all information and speak one on one with our admissions counselor. Furthermore an acceptance letter must be received in order to enroll into any of our programs.
2. Q: Do I need prior experience to attend Makeup programs at SOME?
A: No, experience is not required for most courses, most of our students start at beginner level.
3. Q: What type of employment can Makeup Artists expect after training?
A: Graduates have opportunities working as a freelance artist on television and film sets, on models for photo shoots, doing weddings, proms special occasions and much more! In addition to freelancing, some artists choose to work in retail, own a business, or even instruct makeup classes.
4. Q: Do I need a license?
A: In accordance with the State Laws of NJ Makeup Artistry on its own is NOT a licensed profession. Most Makeup Artists in the industry choose to freelance which the State of NJ does not regulate. Artists are also allowed to work in a salon or retail environment providing products are being sold. School of Makeup Effects has no affiliation with the NJ State Board of Cosmetology and does not provide credits or transferable clock hours towards licensed programs. Upon completion of our programs students receive a certification.
5. Q: What is my income potential?
A: Most experienced Makeup Artists can make between $400-$600 daily as a beauty artist and $600-$1000 daily as a Special Effects artist.
